El dia del Niño (The Day of the Child), also known as El Dia De Los Niños is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and many Latin American countries annually on April 30th. It is celebrated with activities, special events and festivities all centered around children. On this day teachers in schools organize the day for their children. In some schools, lessons are adjusted for the day. They organize games, music, and the children bring in their favorite foods to share with others. Some families also have a day out with their children. There are special activities for children in parks and sports centers. Sometimes, also, the children will be given presents by their families. This is the day when children are honored. As it is spring, children wear many bright colors to celebrate their youth and the coming of Spring.
It’s a day when children should feel special. Usually in Mexico and other Latin countries will host festivals, music shows, magicians, special events with clowns and more for children on this day. Since 1925, this day and its celebration have grown in popularity throughout Mexico as a day to celebrate the well being of children. The United Nations created an initiative in 1956, to invite other countries in celebrating children as well. The United Nations recommended this holiday so that it affirm the rights of children, since they are the voice of the future, individuals who have rights and who should be celebrated as well. Amigos would like to continue to celebrate this holiday in Atkinson Elementary School and make all of our students feel that they are special to us and to our society.
