May

May is a great time for a trip to Mount Tabor to observe migrating birds.

In the Gardens

• Record and sketch in garden journals. Search for insects in the gardens.
• Finalize plans for Legacy Gardens. Purchase starts to transplant when the soil warms up in May.
• Salad greens may be harvested for classroom use or to add to the school salad bar. If hot, harvest greens to avoid bitter taste.
• When weather warms, plant beans, carrots, celery, corn, dill. Starts of summer squash, basil, cucumbers, eggplant, tomatoes, gourds, winter and summer squash may be moved to the garden beds when soils have warmed.

• Continue weeding.
