Garden Activities Through the Seasons

The school gardening year begins in late summer. proofread my paper As days shorten, classes tour the gardens, begin garden journals, and harvest what has grown in the multicultural garden. The Outdoor Learning Garden committee recruits volunteers to join committees or to become classroom garden representatives. Leaves of deciduous trees turn shades of gold, orange, scarlet. They fall to the ground, to be raked and composted. Garden beds are readied for winter by cloching or planting cover crops.

The garden is a quiet place in winter, and with proofread my paper attention focused on visits to observe the lacy remains of decomposing leaves. This is a good time to study seed catalogs and to plan the spring and summer gardens.

As the days lengthen, spring arrives, salad and stir fry gardens are planted for May eating. Spring rains bring abundant growth and students consume leafy green things and weed continuously. Classes continue to observe changes in the wildlife habitat, to plan and plant summer gardens.

The school year ends as the summer growing seasons begins. Students plant a legacy garden for harvest when students return to school in September. Plans are made for tending the summer garden and families make plans to visit farms, gardens and farmers markets nearby.
