In the Gardens

  • Celebrate harvest with produce from the Legacy Gardens.
  • Harvest sunflowers for Vincent Van Gogh inspired paintings.
  • Pick lavender from the Magic Garden to make into soap.
  • During winter months, garden beds are not assigned to a specific classroom. Look to the fall/winter garden map for ideas on what to plant.
  • Journal in the gardens. At the beginning of journaling activities it is a good idea to encourage use of the senses to develop keen observational skills.
  • Visit the Wildlife Habitat to look for signs of fall.
  • Visit the pumpkin patch in the Multicultural Garden.
  • Learn about plant structure by studying decomposing plant matter using magnification loupes. Continue this study through the winter.

Garden Maintenance

  • Harvest and clean out Legacy beds, turn soil, and add compost.
