October
In the Gardens
- Celebrate harvest with produce from the Legacy Gardens.
- Harvest sunflowers for Vincent Van Gogh inspired paintings.
- Pick lavender from the Magic Garden to make into soap.
- During winter months, garden beds are not assigned to a specific classroom. Look to the fall/winter garden map for ideas on what to plant.
- Journal in the gardens. At the beginning of journaling activities it is a good idea to encourage use of the senses to develop keen observational skills.
- Visit the Wildlife Habitat to look for signs of fall.
- Visit the pumpkin patch in the Multicultural Garden.
- Learn about plant structure by studying decomposing plant matter using magnification loupes. Continue this study through the winter.
Garden Maintenance
- Harvest and clean out Legacy beds, turn soil, and add compost.
